Van Andel Arena hosts collegiate Final Five

A major college hockey tournament will be played at Van Andel Arena this weekend.

The WCHA Final Five takes place Friday and Saturday at the arena, as four teams from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association face off, including Ferris State University.

The winner of the championship wins the Broadmoor Trophy and an automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA tournament.


Ferris State takes on Michigan Tech University at 7:37 p.m. on Friday, and Bowling Green University faces Minnesota State University at 4:07 p.m.

The winners play each other for the championship at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.

On Saturday, a practice with the Honorary Fifth Team, the Grand Rapids Sled Wings, will take place at 8:30 a.m.

Youth clinic

The Dick’s Sporting Goods WCHA Youth Clinic will also take place on Saturday: 6U and 8U, 1-1:50 p.m.; 10U and 12U, 2-2:50 p.m.
