Logistics company builds $1.7M distribution center
A logistics company serving the furniture industry is building a new $1.7-million distribution center in the area to support its growing cross-border business between the U.S. and Canada.
Western Logistics broke ground this month on its new 30,000-square-foot distribution center in Zeeland Township, at 84th Avenue and Riley Street, according to Midwest Construction Group in Zeeland, the construction firm on the project.
The distribution center will meet the expansion demands of the company’s North American freight system.
“This new facility will help us to grow and expand our coverage in the region,” said Mary Waring, CEO, Western Logistics.
The company currently operates a 10,000-square-foot distribution center on 96th Ave. in Holland. All services from that facility and the company’s 20 Holland employees will be transferred to the new location.
“The new Zeeland terminal should be completed by summer and will be three times larger then company’s current terminal,” said Scott Geerlings, president and partner, Midwest Construction Group.
The distribution center, which will be located on 5.3 acres, will allow for more truck and container space, improve capacity and productivity and provide more coverage points across the U.S., according to Mike Uhl, Holland terminal manager, Western Logistics.
Uhl said the distribution center is part of Western Logistics “strategic plan” to expand operations, which includes a greater focus west of the Mississippi River.
Western Logistics operates one other U.S. terminal, which is located in Hickory, North Carolina.
Founded in 1990, Vancouver, British Columbia-based Western Logistics specializes in the transportation of commercial office and residential furniture from North America’s largest furniture companies.
The company provides coast-to-coast service through a network of terminals and carriers across the U.S. and Canada.
