A craft spirits tasting room could be on its way downtown.

Artesian Distillers will go in front of the Grand Rapids Planning Commission on Thursday to seek approval to operate a bar at 15 Ionia Ave. SW.

No exterior changes are being proposed for the potential retail spot, as it is preserved by the Historical Committee.

The interior would be 2,600 square feet of dining and bar space for 80 people, including a lounge and retail area in the back.

The applicant, owner Amir Haririan, is asking for four to five tables of outdoor seating, similar to the neighboring Grand Rapids Brewing Co., which was approved in August 2014.

The location would offer a variety of the company’s spirits, as well as beer and a full food menu, featuring sandwiches, flat-bread pizza and appetizers.

The cocktail menu would feature more than 80 drinks, according to the planning commission application.

The company has a production and bottling facility in Grand Rapids, near the 32nd Street and Eastern Avenue intersection, which it has operated since 2010.

For the past three years, Artesian Distillers has operated a martini and rum bar in downtown Rockford called Underground.
