A food maker in the region is considered one of the top companies in the nation for diversity — for the fifth straight year.

Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company is ranked No. 30 on DiversityInc’s 2016 ranking of “The Top 50 Companies for Diversity.”

Kellogg is the top-ranked food company in the ranking.

Oakland, California-based Kaiser Permanente ranks No. 1.

Kellogg is cited by DiversityInc for its commitment to diversity at the top.

At Kellogg, African-Americans, Asians and Latinos hold senior management positions at a rate 21.1 percent higher than U.S. companies overall, and women hold senior management positions at a rate 50.6 percent higher than other U.S. companies, according to DiversityInc.

“We are a company that has and always will care about people, which is reflected in the way we foster a supportive and positive workplace," said Paul Norman, North American president, Kellogg. "To enable our growth, employees must feel empowered to give their best and feel valued for their diverse backgrounds, experiences, styles and ideas."

Companies were ranked via responses to surveys sent out earlier in the year.

More than 1,800 companies participated in the 2016 survey.

Performance assessments were based on four criteria: talent pipeline; equitable talent development; CEO/leadership commitment; and supplier diversity.
