Staffing firm hosts job fair
A local staffing firm will be recruiting next week on behalf of 30 companies looking to fill positions in the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing.
Express Employment Professionals of Grand Rapids will host the job fair on May 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its Wyoming office, at 1760 44th St. SW, suite 10.
All job openings are for full-time direct hire or contract-to-hire positions, with pay ranging from $15 an hour to $30 an hour.
Express will be recruiting for various positions: maintenance technicians; journeyman electricians; CNC machinists; tool & die positions; and other skilled manufacturing jobs.
Jocelyn Hodack, director of talent acquisition at Express Employment Professionals of Grand Rapids, said the purpose of the job fair is twofold: to help match candidates with job opportunities, as well as raise awareness about skilled trades and advanced manufacturing job opportunities.
Express said recent studies by the National Institute of Standards and Technology found 30 percent of parents encourage their children to consider a manufacturing career, and 17 percent of people view manufacturing as a top career choice.
At the same time, Express said the number of high-paying manufacturing jobs continues to increase as baby boomers retire from the industry.
The company said representatives will be available to discuss the career paths available and what type of training and education are required for those career options.
“We hope that people who are considering a career path in manufacturing will attend this event, so that they can see how many in demand and high-paying career options are available, especially in the Grand Rapids area,” Hodack said.
