Coffee chain marks next downtown location
A coffee chain is opening a new location downtown.
Biggby Coffee has signed a lease for a 1,200-square-foot ground-floor location at Arena Place in Grand Rapids, at 55 Ottawa Ave. SW, according to Orion Construction.
The Biggby franchise is owned by Tim Hoffman. It is Hoffman’s fourth Biggby in Grand Rapids and his eighth location.
The coffee shop is slated to open shortly after a June 28 soft-opening week.
The shop will hire about 15 full- and part-time employees.
“I am very pleased to expand in our community,” Hoffman said. “We look forward to being part of the Arena Place community and the excitement this beautiful new development creates in the Arena District.”
Biggby shops offer a variety of coffee and non-coffee drinks with more than 20 flavors available to customize drink orders.
The chain is based in East Lansing.
Arena Place is an 11-story building by Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction, featuring office and retail space and 100 apartments.
An anchor tenant, the law firm Miller Johnson, moved into its new home on the 8th through 11th floors of the building this month, and Wheelhouse, a restaurant and bar, opened on the ground floor this month.
Other tenants slated to move into the office portion of the development include Hanon McKendry and Meritage Hospitality Group.
Collliers International | West Michigan is managing the leasing of the commercial space.
“We are very comfortable with the mix of tenants at Arena Place, and Biggby Coffee is a perfect fit for both the residential and office tenants,” said John Wheeler, director of business development, Orion Construction.
