Bar chain plans next Midwest location
A local bar chain is planning another location in the Midwest.
BarFly Ventures said yesterday that its 12th HopCat location will be in Kansas City, Missouri and open later this year.
The location will be in Kansas City's Westport neighborhood, at 401 Westport Rd.
BarFly, HopCat’s parent company, and the building’s landlord, CAD Management, expect to invest $2.5 million to transform the building.
The beer bar will feature 130 taps, including 30 focusing on Missouri and Kansas beers, with another 100 dedicated to rotating taps from across the globe.
The new location will include a rooftop deck and bar and private dining room and bar.
“Kansas City is a great town for craft beer with a vibrant community of brewers,” said Mark Sellers, founder and CEO, HopCat and BarFly Ventures. “The HopCat we’re planning in Westport will be unique in many ways, serving as a regional showcase for craft beers from Missouri, Kansas and around the world.”
BarFly Ventures was founded in 2008 with the opening of the original HopCat location in downtown Grand Rapids.
The beer bar has been named the No. 3 beer bar on "planet Earth" by BeerAdvocate magazine and No. 1 brewpub in the U.S. by RateBeer.com.
HopCat has locations in East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Indianapolis, Madison, Wisconsin, Lexington, Kentucky and Lincoln, Nebraska.
Locations in Kalamazoo, Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky are in the works.
BarFly also owns three other businesses in Grand Rapids: Stella’s Lounge, Grand Rapids Brewing Co. and The Waldron Public House.
