A Holland-based automated equipment maker is creating 250 jobs and investing $5.6 million into the region via an expansion.

JR Automation Technologies LLC is planning to acquire a new facility near its current Holland operations, which is expected to be operational by the end of the year. The address, approximate cost and use of the new facility was not disclosed, but the majority of jobs created will be in engineering.

“West Michigan is a great place to live and raise a family and we are excited to be offering hundreds of new job opportunities to both experienced engineers and new grads,” said Bryan Jones, JR Automation CEO. “We look forward to the continued opportunities that will be generated in our community through this expansion.”

Nuts and bolts

Zeeland-based economic development nonprofit Lakeshore Advantage was instrumental in facilitating the expansion, providing resources and connecting organizations to help the company grow.

As a result of its investment into the area, JR Automation will receive a $2.2 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant and Holland Charter Township has offered support in the form of a 12-year property tax abatement.

West Michigan Works! is providing up to $190,000 in grants and workforce support to JR Automation, allowing the company the resources to bring a skilled and qualified workforce to the region.

"JR Automation is a true example of a local company that started in a garage and has now developed into one of region’s major employers,” Lakeshore Advantage President Jennifer Owens said. “The systems developed by the JR team are sure to equip manufacturers throughout the world for efficiency and growth.”

Michigan was chosen as the site for the expansion after a nationwide search.
