Concrete firm expands Up North
A local concrete contractor is expanding into northern Michigan.
Grand Rapids-based Kent Companies said this week that it will open an office in Traverse City.
The new office will provide three main offerings: site concrete, underlayment products and specialized residential services.
The decision to expand into the region is based on a portfolio of clients Kent Companies serves through its Grand Rapids office.
The northern Michigan office means the firm can bid more aggressively for local jobs, a company representative said.
Kent Companies VP Steve DeVries is directing the expansion and business development in northern Michigan.
“As the demand for our services grows, we’re positioning our team to respond more efficiently to our customers and their projects across the state,” DeVries said
Kent Companies Superintendent Jason Harrall is based in Traverse City and will maintain a crew for daily operations.
Kent Companies initially began operations in northern Michigan in the 1990s, but it re-focused company efforts on West Michigan during the Great Recession.
“As our state and regional economies expand, the entire construction industry must meet the demand for new and revitalized facilities, housing and more,” said Jeff VanderLaan, CEO, Kent Companies. “Kent Companies’ presence in northern Michigan gives our team another critical access point to serve our customers. This is strategic and planned growth.”
Kent Companies provides a range of concrete-related specialties for commercial, industrial and multi-family housing projects.
The firm also has operations in Detroit, central Ohio, Dallas and Charlotte, North Carolina.
