Construction firm builds shopping center
A local construction firm is building a new 6,000-square-foot shopping center in the area.
CD Barnes Construction said this week that it is working on the project in Gaines Township, just south of Kentwood, at 6755 Kalamazoo Ave. SE.
Construction began last week on the $1 million to $1.5-million center. The building's shell should be completed in November.
The center is being developed by an unnamed ownership group.
NorthStar Commercial is handling the center’s leasing, and Architectural Concepts is serving as the project’s architect.
Tropical Smoothie Café and Great Clips will be the center’s first tenants. There is 3,000 square feet available for two more tenants.
Tropical Smoothie Café anticipates hiring about 30 part- and full-time employees for the location.
