A chicken fast-food chain is building a location in the area.

Chick-fil-A said today that it broke ground on the location in Gaines Township, at 1545 Edgeknoll Dr. SE.

The 4,877-square-foot restaurant is expected to open in early 2017, with a dining room for 132 customers and a patio for an additional 20 diners.

There will also be two drive-thru lanes.

The location is expected to create 80-90 jobs.

Chick-fil-A’s menu consists of a variety of chicken items, including its original chicken sandwich.

Chick-fil-A in Michigan

The Gaines Township site is the second free-standing Chick-fil-A under construction in the state, with the other one in Lansing.

Chick-fil-A has purchased a site in Holland for a location, according to a Business Journal report last July. As of today, Holland isn’t listed as a location on the company’s website.

The chain is planning to open a location this fall at a mall in metro Detroit.

Currently, there are two open locations in the state, one at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and one in Rochester, according to the company's site.

The chain said today that it has aggressive expansion plans for Michigan, which are expected to be detailed in the near future.

The family owned company was founded in 1964 and is based in Atlanta.

Chick-fil-A has grown to include more than 2,000 restaurants in 43 states and Washington, D.C.
