Craft spirits maker opens tasting room
A craft spirits maker has opened another tasting room in the region.
Holland-based Coppercraft Distillery opened the 400-square-foot space last week in Saugatuck, at 435 Water St.
Opening additional locations has always been in the plan, but the distillery began looking more earnestly for a spot this year, said Kim Catton, co-founder and director of sales, Coppercraft Distillery.
Saugatuck was chosen as Coppercraft’s first tasting room outside of its Holland headquarters because of potential exposure, Catton said.
“The vibe is so different than what you might find in Holland, Grand Haven or even Grand Rapids,” Catton said. “With the boaters and vacationers, we can draw from Illinois and continue to further the exposure.”
Coppercraft will allow the new location to settle, but Catton didn’t rule out additional tasting rooms in the near future, including beyond the lakeshore.
The tasting room
Initially, the tasting room will sell tastings of the distillery’s spirits and bottles. Cocktail service will begin next spring. However, the location won’t be a cocktail bar, Catton said.
Catton said the focus will be on guests tasting the company’s spirits, including rum, gin, vodka, citrus vodka, bourbon and whiskies.
The space was decorated with the help of Cento Anni and Premier Metal Products, including display cabinets, tabletops, standing bars and signage.
The tasting room will be open from 3-8 p.m. on Thursdays and 12-8 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.
