Wisconsin acquisition leads to local jobs, new plant
A manufacturer of plastic profile extruded products has acquired the extrusion business of a Wisconsin company and will expand in Grand Rapids as a result.
Custom Profile of Walker announced earlier this month that it has acquired the plastics profile extrusion business of Bemis Manufacturing Co. of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of this month.
Custom Profile said as a result of the acquisition it plans to bring an additional 30 jobs and a new 75,000-square-foot facility to the Grand Rapids area.
Bemis will continue to manufacture the existing business for Custom Profile in the Sheboygan Falls facility until new space is available to transition the operation to both Grand Rapids and Juarez, Mexico, where Custom Profile also has an operation.
Custom Profile said it will use the new business unit to expand its customer base as well as to support several new extrusion categories, including specialized products in the health care and automotive sectors.
Some of the new products the facility will be producing include medical burette chambers manufactured in a cleanroom setting using UV and screen printing, precision clips for automotive seats and battery covers and waterproof cable protectors, as well as other highly engineered profiles.
John Boeschenstein, Custom Profile CEO, said the Bemis organization is an injection molding company at its core, so by selling its extrusion business to Custom Profile, it can now focus on its core competency.
He called the acquisition a “perfect fit” for both companies.
“Bemis has built an incredibly strong extrusion business which aligns to both our culture and market experience. We are now in the position to provide improved support and expanded capabilities to our customers worldwide,” he said.
