Coffee company opening café in Downtown Market
A Grand Rapids coffee roaster is opening a café in the Downtown Market.
Madcap Coffee Company said today it will open the location prior to the holidays.
The café will focus on collaborations with other Downtown Market vendors. It will be Madcap’s third retail location.
“Madcap is one the most recognized brands in West Michigan,” Downtown Market President and CEO Mimi Fritz said. “Like our other Market Hall vendors, their focus is solely on their craft — the most perfect cup of coffee.”
The location will feature a “modern circular bar and bright, contemporary and almost futuristic vibes.”
The café's design will showcase baristas and how they make drinks, with equipment flush to the coffee bar.
“We want to emphasize the consistency of a quality coffee experience, across all of our locations, and each location will feature a little something different,” Madcap CEO Trevor Corlett said. “With our Downtown Market café, we will strive to create an experience centric around transparency.”
The café will feature a new espresso milkshake and a children’s menu, as well as a toast menu in collaboration with Field & Fire, the bakery located in the Downtown Market. Sweet and savory waffles, bagels and other baked goods will be on the menu as well.
The location will also sell coffee- and tea-brewing equipment, Madcap apparel and beverage containers.
Slated for a full opening in mid December, Madcap will offer people “a taste of what’s to come” on several dates prior to formally opening: Nov. 25-26; during the Downtown Market Winter Wonderland from 4-8 p.m. on Dec. 7; and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Dec. 9-11.
Madcap opened its first café in 2008 at 98 Monroe Center St. NW in downtown Grand Rapids.
It is also opening a café at its Madcap Roastery and Training Lab in Grand Rapids, at 1041 E. Fulton St.
