Bar chain plans location in Florida
A local restaurant and bar chain is straying from its Midwest expansion plans for its next location.
Grand Rapids-based BarFly Ventures said today it will open the 100-tap HopCat Port St. Lucie in Florida in late 2017.
“As the eighth-largest city in Florida and growing, we see an increasing number of retailers and restaurateurs wanting to call Port St. Lucie home,” Port St. Lucie Mayor Gregory Oravec said. “If they execute like we expect them to, their only problem will be not having enough seats.”
The beer bar will be in a new $2-million waterfront building off of SW Meeting Street in the Tradition community, developed by Kalamazoo’s Innovo Development Group.
The restaurant will have a expansive waterfront dining area and indoor seating for 250.
HopCat Port St. Lucie is expected to hire up to 150 employees.
The menu will feature Crack Fries, Detroit-style pizza, soups and salads, among other items.
HopCat COO Mark Gray is a resident of Port St. Lucie.
“Bringing HopCat to my home has always been a personal goal,” Gray said. “The opportunity to open at Tradition offered us the perfect way to introduce our restaurant and craft beer bar to the state of Florida.
“Florida’s craft beer industry is innovative and growing. We look forward to working with the industry to provide a hub and a showcase for Florida’s brewers.”
