Insurance brokerage hires strategic advisor
A local insurance brokerage has hired a 40-year industry veteran as a strategic advisor.
Caledonia-based Acrisure has named D. Michael Sherman to the role, a newly created position intended to assist the firm with its ongoing growth on the national stage.
Sherman will report to Acrisure President and CEO Greg Williams.
“(Sherman) has vast operations experience in the insurance industry as well as an exceptional track record of achieving growth,” Williams said. “Combined with his management insights and relationships, our entire leadership team will greatly benefit from his talent and management skills, and we look forward to working with him.”
A graduate of Alma College, Sherman began his career at Dawson Insurance in 1978, eventually rising up the ranks to serve as CEO in 1986. Following the company’s sale to AssuredPartners in 2012, he stayed on as Dawson Platform chairman and CEO until the end of 2015, as well as serving as vice chairman of AssuredPartners.
Sherman also holds an M.B.A. from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
“I have become very familiar with Acrisure and have great enthusiasm for its growth model, which is unmatched in the industry,” Sherman said. “I look forward to helping Greg and his management team continue to build this unique platform.”
With more than 96 locations in 26 states and about 3,000 employees, Acrisure is one of the largest retail insurance brokers in the nation.
Established in 2005, the firm was acquired by San Francisco-based Genstar Capital in 2013. Last October, Co-Founder Williams led a management buyout of Acrisure, bringing the $670-million firm back under local ownership.
