Smoothie café franchise opening location
A smoothie café franchise is opening its next West Michigan location next week.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe said it will open a location in Portage, at 230 W. Milham Ave., on March 4.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a fast-casual restaurant concept serving smoothies, salads, wraps, sandwiches and flatbreads.
The café caters to customers looking for “healthier lifestyles.”
The restaurant will be the second location in the region for husband-and-wife franchisees Eduardo Ramos and Corina Groeger.
The couple opened their first location in 2015 in Kalamazoo.
Ramos said he and his wife are proud to be part of the brand's “rapid growth” throughout the state.
The Portage location will be the chain’s 50th location in Michigan.
The chain said the new location is the result of work by its area developers — Craig LeMieux and Dianne LeMieux and Debbie King — who have led Tropical Smoothie Cafe’s expansion throughout Michigan since 2005.
The trio has helped make Michigan the third-largest market for the franchise, which has sold over 450 franchises nationwide in the past three years.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe said it plans to open 100 restaurants nationwide this year and have 1,000 stores open across the U.S. by 2020.
