Craft spirits maker releases absinthe
A distillery in the area has produced a Michigan-made absinthe.
Bier Distillery in Comstock Park, at 5295 West River Dr., said last week it released its Henry’s Absent Absinthe Verte.
The product can be sampled at Bier Distillery and purchased in 375-ml bottles.
Absinthe is flavored with a number of botanicals, including anise, wormwood, fennel and licorice.
Absinthe was banned in the U.S. from 1912 to 2007.
“This product has been years in the making,” said Joel Bierling, co-owner and head distiller, Bier Distillery. “Because of the complex flavors in the spirit, it takes a lot of experimenting to get the ideal flavor profile.”
Bier Distillery was founded in 2014 and initially shared space with Cellar Brewing Co. in Sparta.
The distillery then found its own space and opened in Comstock Park in 2016.
The company makes a variety of spirits, including rum, whiskey, vodka, gin and moonshine.
