AdFed honoring exec with Silver Medal Award
The West Michigan chapter of the American Advertising Federation will honor the president of a local advertising agency this week for his contributions to the industry.
AdFed West Michigan said last week it selected Chris Cook, president of Fairly Painless Advertising, as the recipient of the chapter’s Silver Medal Award.
Cook will receive the award at noon this Thursday at the University Club Grand Rapids, at 111 Lyon St. NW.
Past Silver Medal recipients Greg Palazzolo, Rob Jackson, Rob Pocock, Ade Snyder and Jack Maynard plan to attend the ceremony.
The award, established by the American Advertising Federation in 1959 and bestowed by the local chapter since 1961, recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.
Pamela Patton, president of AdFed West Michigan, said Cook embodies all of those hallmarks.
“It’s great we’re going to be able to give it to Chris,” Patton said. “(He) has promoted the advertising craft and has made a significant contribution to the advertising industry as a whole.”
Patton said this was the first year AdFed did not present the Silver Medal Award during its annual ADDY Awards, held in February. The organization wanted to make it a separate event, shining a spotlight on the winner and past recipients.
Cook is the founding principal of Fairly Painless Advertising, which has offices in Holland and Grand Rapids.
His agency has worked with Herman Miller, Amway, Haworth and Spectrum Health, among others.
He has led the agency for more than 24 years through difficult economic times and changing technologies.
Before founding Fairly Painless Advertising, Cook was a national director for Greenpeace, a congressional aide for the U.S. Congress and a board member of the Antarctica Foundation.
Most recently, Cook served on the board at Hospice of Holland.
