A new Italian restaurant is set to open soon in Grand Rapids.

Palio, at 545 Michigan St. NE, will host a VIP grand-opening celebration on April 18.

The Medical Mile restaurant opens to the public on April 19, with dinner-only hours running until April 23. Palio’s normal business hours begin on April 24.

The VIP party requires reservations, which cost $125 per person and benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan. Reservations can be made by calling Mainstreet Ventures’ guest services team at (888) 456-3463.

Palio is operated by Mainstreet Ventures, an Ann Arbor restaurant group that operates 21 restaurants in five states. The group also operates The Chop House and La Dolce Vita.

The Grand Rapids Palio is the second Palio location, joining one in Ann Arbor.

A $400,000 renovation project has transformed the former El Barrio Mexican Grill space into the Palio dining room. Palio Grand Rapids was announced in February.

The menu will include pizza, pasta and other Italian staples. Palio will also feature a 20,000-lb pizza oven as the centerpiece of the restaurant.

Mainstreet Ventures CEO Michael Gibbons said the group has kept its eye on Grand Rapids and believes Medical Mile is a good location for the restaurant, according to previous Business Journal reports. He also said Mainstreet Ventures may add another restaurant to the market.

The hope is for Palio to be a neighborhood destination restaurant for workers, homeowners and guests of the Hampton.

“I think people are really going to enjoy it,” Gibbons said. “It will be a great atmosphere, with a lot of energy….I think it will be a fun place.”
