Grand Rapids wins global FoodTrekking award for 'destination experience'

Restaurant Week gets ready to serve local goodies

Grand Rapids is considered one of the best food and beverage destinations in the world.

Grand Rapids came in second place in the Best Food & Beverage Destination Experience category at the World Food Travel Association’s 2017 FoodTrekking Awards, according to Experience Grand Rapids today.

The province of Ontario won first place in the food and beverage destination category.

A panel of seven judges from across the globe evaluated submissions from organizations on business strategy, marketing communications, public reputation and individual products. At least two judges looked at each submission.

Experience Grand Rapids submitted the information on behalf of the city and included the Grand Rapids Food Trail, Beer City Passport, beer tourism information, Downtown Market, Cocktail Week GR, farmers markets and the general agricultural atmosphere.

“Beer City, U.S.A. pairs perfectly with the emerging culinary scene in Grand Rapids,” said Kate Herron, director of marketing, Experience Grand Rapids. “We have a plethora of artesian culinary businesses popping up and high-quality restaurants as well, which all contribute to this award in their own way.”
