A sushi restaurant in the area is planning to open its second location.

Jaku Sushi & Grill said today it plans to open the new location in Grand Rapids — at 2289 E. Beltline Ave. NE, north of Knapp Street NE, — by the end of summer.

Jaku opened its first location in 2014 in Caledonia.

Suna Cho, general manager, said the new location will help the restaurant meet customer demand.

She noted the restaurant regularly fills up and has customers waiting to be seated.

“We have very many customers who travel from the north to dine in with us and wish to have one close to their work and homes,” Cho said. “I think the location will cover customers from 28th Street to the Rockford area.”

The new location will feature the same menu as the Caledonia restaurant, which offers Japanese and Korean items. Menu items such as gal-bi, or Korean beef ribs, may be added.

Cho said she’s also considering opening a third restaurant, in either Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, which would have a “slightly different concept” from Jaku.
