Eye care group acquires practice
A local eye care group has acquired an established practice.
Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, or GRO, said last week it added Lakeshore Opticians in East Grand Rapids, at 717 Bagley Ave., an independent eye care provider operating since 1966, to its group and its Great Lakes Management Services Organization.
The office will be re-christened as Lakeshore Eye and renovations to update the interior will begin this summer.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Dr. William Schultz will continue to see patients at Lakeshore Eye, as he has done for the past 21 years, and Dave Lintula will remain on as an optician at Lakeshore Eye.
Bob Wolford, executive director of GRO, said continuity of the office will continue despite new ownership.
“This type of partnership is a growing trend in medicine today, and we will continue to work with eye care professionals who wish to integrate their practices with our organization,” Wolford said. “Such arrangements provide additional resources and support for the doctors and their staffs, with the potential to expand their offering to include specialized medical and surgical treatments and retail products.”
Lakeshore Eye is the first independent provider to join GRO and its Great Lakes Management Services Organization, which was formed by Chicago-based Sterling Partners in February to offer practice management services for GRO’s practice group members.
“The decision to partner with GRO will continue the legacy of providing excellent care for our patients in East Grand Rapids,” said Michael Vander Baan, former owner, Lakeshore Opticians. “I am personally excited for the future of both the variety of offerings in the optical shop and the growth of Dr. Schultz’s practice.”
