A building materials supplier has acquired a maker of wood products in the area.

Grand Rapids-based Lumbermen’s said yesterday it acquired Michigan Prestain after a two-year partnership, whereby Lumbermen distributed the company’s pre-finished wood products.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed,

The combined companies will “produce and distribute” products under the brand Great American Spaces.

Michigan Prestain Founder Greg Troutt expects to stay on the Lumberman’s team.

“We are thrilled to add Michigan Prestain to our already diverse product offering,” said Steve Petersen, president, Lumbermen’s. “There is a natural synergy between our companies. We’re excited about the growth opportunities and value it will bring to our customers, as well as what it will mean to our employee-owners.”

Founded in 1989, the Michigan Prestain business has 30 employees at its 66,000-square-foot facility in Wyoming. Its products include Easy Barnwood.

Lumbermen’s, founded in 1955, has 400 employees in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.
