West Side grocery store closing
A grocery store on the West Side is closing its doors.
The Duthler’s Family Foods location at 648 Bridge St. NW in Grand Rapids has posted a closing notice on its doors.
No timetable was set, but items — excluding beer, wine and tobacco — are 20-percent off.
Duthler’s Office Manager Monique Smith suggests customers moving out and a lease issue as the reasons for closure, according to a report by Business Journal media partner WZZM TV 13.
"This is the community store pretty much, and a lot of them have been forced to move or can't afford rent — this is low-income, and it's not going to be that way anymore," Smith told WZZM.
Smith said the doors will close next month.
Nearby on Bridge Street, Meijer will open a grocery store as part of a larger development by Grand Rapids-based Rockford Construction.
Following the closure of the Bridge Street Duthler’s Family Foods, Duthler’s will operate one store. It is located on the city’s southeast side, at 1226 Madison Ave. SE.
