Law firm hires member
A law firm that recently opened a Grand Rapids office has added a member with experience in employment law and general business and civil litigation.
Detroit-based Bodman, which opened a Grand Rapids office on May 1, said last week it hired attorney John David Gardiner.
Floyd Gates Jr., managing member at Bodman Grand Rapids, said he is “thrilled” Gardiner is joining the firm.
“I have known and worked with John for years,” Gates said. “He is an outstanding attorney with a strong service ethic and a deep commitment to the community.”
Gardiner said he is also happy to be at the firm.
“I am very excited to now be a member of Bodman, given its sterling reputation for quality and service," Gardiner said. "I am impressed with the firm’s commitment to southwest Michigan and with the significant resources and efficiencies Bodman can provide to my existing and prospective clients.”
Gardiner, a Kalamazoo native, has more than a decade of experience representing West Michigan employers in workplace law and general business law matters.
He also represents business owners and their families in connection with alleged white-collar crime and other criminal investigations.
Gardiner began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for Bronx County, New York. As a law student, he interned with the corporate legal department of Rockefeller & Co. Inc., a registered wealth management and investment advisory firm.
As a member of the firm’s workplace law and litigation and alternative dispute resolution practice groups, Gardiner will add to the range of services offered from the Grand Rapids office. He is the third attorney to join the Grand Rapids office since it opened.
Gardiner is a member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee, a board member of Legal Aid of Western Michigan and has volunteered for a number of charities related to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo.
He earned a B.A. from Kalamazoo College and a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in Jamaica, New York.
Founded in 1929, Bodman is a business law firm headquartered in Detroit, with offices in Ann Arbor, Cheboygan, Grand Rapids and Troy.
The firm with 150 attorneys has practices that range from banking and finance to labor and employment, bankruptcy and insurance.
