Partners plan retail building
A new retail building is slated for a Grand Rapids suburb.
The Ada Township Planning Commission approved last night the two-story, 12,000-square-foot building for the corner of Ada Drive and Settlers Street. The site is currently owned by Geld, LLC.
The site will be purchased and developed by Michael Garrett, president of Grand Rapids-based Pinnacle Construction, and Tom Cronkright and Julie Cronkright of Cronkright Ventures.
The cost of the property purchase and the project’s construction cost were not disclosed.
“It’s easy to see how Ada’s small village feeling can draw shoppers and diners who want to spend time walking around, possibly enjoy a lunch or dinner, with the added value of access to the Thornapple River,” Garrett said.
Construction on the building will begin next year. It will feature ground-floor retail space and space for support offices on the second floor.
An anchor tenant is expected to be announced later this year, with the space to be filled out by the end of the year.
Retail tenants are expected to be well-known enough to attract visitors to Ada, said Tom Cronkright, who is also an attorney and co-owner of Grand Rapis-based Sun Title. The Cronkrights also own retail property in Rockford.
“We are extremely excited to be a part of the vision surrounding the new Ada Village and look forward to bringing new and exciting businesses into this walkable district,” Cronkright said.
The building will have high ceilings, tall windows and brick walls.
Ada-based Dixon Architecture is the architect of record.
“The building is completely in line with the character and charm that is being built in the Ada Village area,” said Susan Burton, an Ada Township planning commissioner.
