Builder plots 43-home development
After more than 50 years, the final phase of a housing development in the region is being completed.
Rockford-based Sable Homes said last week it has broken ground on the sixth phase of the Country Meadows development in the Village of Sparta, located east of Martindale Street and Tentree Drive on the village’s southeast side.
The $1.5-million, 43-lot project is expected to be completed in under 36 months.
Properties will be sold through a combination of pre-sold homes and built inventory. Sable Homes is "taking reservations" for pre-purchase.
The homes will be 2,000 to 2,500 square feet and be sold for $180,000 to $250,000.
Sable Homes has contracted with GBL Excavation for the project.
Sparta-based ChoiceOne Bank is the project’s preferred lender.
The 16-acre Country Meadows property was first developed in 1961 and saw subsequent phases built through 1998, according to Sable Homes.
Lots in the sixth and final phase of the Country Meadows development will reside on new streets and feature utility services, including city water and sewer, cable, electricity and natural gas connections.
“Not only will it bring new homeowners to our community, but it will give current residents the opportunity to purchase a new home or upgrade to a larger home,” said John Bitely, the president of Sable Homes, who was born and raised in the Sparta area.
“We have a great community, and without these new homes, some people would consider relocating to other communities due to the lack of new homes.”
