Partners complete suburban commercial building
A pair of partners have completed a fully leased commercial building in a Grand Rapids suburb.
The two-story, 10,000-square-foot building at 523 Ada Dr. SE is part of the redevelopment of Ada Village and is the product of a partnership between Dixon Architecture and DMC Design, an interior design firm.
The partnership, known as Ada First LLC, broke ground on the building in April 2016.
The cost of the project was not disclosed.
Dixon Architecture and DMC Design own the building and are also tenants.
Other tenants include the boutique fitness studio Alkalign Studios, custom homebuilder Lown Homes and Union Bank.
The partners said this week they designed the building to be reminiscent of Michigan structures built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, with brick masonry on the exterior and large windows facing the street.
The interior of the building shares the same historical feel of the exterior, including reclaimed brick, exposed beams and light fixtures, mirroring the late 1800s to early 1900s period. There is also a 20-stall parking lot out back.
"We are thrilled to be in our new home, along with our new neighbors who share our desire to be at the heart of the new Ada Village,” said Ken Dixon, principal and architect, Dixon Architecture. “I wanted to blend the building into the existing village and embrace history, while maintaining a contemporary sensibility.”
