Restaurant company donates 1,287 coats for children
A local restaurant company has donated 1,287 coats to schools and organizations for children in need.
Grand Rapids-based Meritage Hospitality Group said last week it raised the coat donations from Nov. 6-12 through its fifth-annual "Coats for Combos" drive.
The coat drive kicked off Wendy’s of Michigan’s annual “Change a Child’s Life” campaign, which has raised more than $2.5 million for local charitable children’s organizations and runs through Dec. 31 at all West Michigan Wendy’s restaurants.
“This has been by far our most successful year of this campaign,” said Mike Baldwin, director of north operations, Meritage Hospitality Group. “We more than doubled our goal of 600 coat donations through our 65 participating West Michigan, northern Michigan, Detroit and Toledo restaurants.”
Meritage Hospitality Group operates restaurants in eight states, including local Wendy’s franchises, plus Twisted Rooster and Crooked Goose.
Meritage worked with West Michigan Spartans, Duckett Enterprises and the Miller Johnson law firm to raise awareness and solicit donations to West Michigan Wendy’s locations.
The new and gently used coats were donated to the following West Michigan organizations:
Sibley Elementary, Grand Rapids
Comstock Elementary, Kalamazoo
Glenside Elementary, Muskegon
Cedar Springs Public Schools
Holland Rescue Mission
