California fitness chain enters market
A California-based fitness chain's first location in the state is in Grand Rapids.
Studio Barre Grand Rapids in now open in Breton Village, at 1888 Breton Rd. SE.
The 1,600-square-foot studio features wood floors, full-length mirrors on three walls and equipment for workouts focused on core strength to improve posture and create a “dancer-like” physique.
“People have been really liking it,” said Anna Chapman, owner, Studio Barre Grand Rapids. “We had full classes over the (opening) weekend. People love the space. It’s been fun to see it come together.”
The space also includes a children’s play area and a retail area, which sells water bottles and studio-branded clothes, such as tank tops, leggings and grip socks.
Studio Barre leased the location from Breton Village owner CWD Real Estate Investment. The studio’s leasing agent was Dave Denton with DAR Development.
Chapman contracted with Grand Rapids-based Architect at Large and Ada-based Erhardt Construction to build out the existing space.
Studio Barre was founded in 2012 by professional ballet dancer and fitness expert Shannon Higgins.
The company operates multiple locations nationwide: Newport, Rhode Island; Charleston, South Carolina; Crown Point, Indiana; Bozeman, Montana; Alexandria, Virginia; Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Dedham, Massachusetts; and in Ventura, San Diego and Orange County, California.
