Brewery creating banquet hall
A local brewery plans to create a banquet hall at its property.
Grand Rapids-based Creston Brewery, at 1504 Plainfield Ave. NE, will convert the 5,000-square-foot vacant space above its taproom into a banquet hall for corporate and community events.
The space will have a capacity for more than 200 people, plus a conference room for 30 people.
The hall will be designed to host a variety of events, including comedy shows, yoga classes, weddings, corporate events and community speakers.
The build out should be completed in the spring.
Co-owner Vincent Lambert expects the addition will add about 10 full-time and part-time jobs.
Lambert said the banquet hall has “ been a long time coming.”
“It was part of our original business plan,” Lambert said. “We’ve done really well. We’ve been open only 16 months, but thanks to the support from the Creston neighborhood and the City of Grand Rapids, it’s allowed us to follow through with our plans.”
Currently, the brewery allows private groups to rent space inside the taproom, but the owners envision the new banquet hall to be a “real community space.”
With a 20-barrel brewing system, Lambert said the brewery has been sitting on a lot of extra inventory in anticipation of the opportunity to expand.
The kitchen, also located on the second floor, is already outfitted to accommodate the new hall.
Creston Brewery’s current tap list features brews such as Harvest Polar Bear, with multi-grain and Crystal hops, Blueberry Sweet Street, with blueberries and Midwest wheat, and The Great Log Jam of 1883 Nitro, with chocolate and Rowster coffee.
The food menu features Latin-style entrees and has recently expanded to other offerings.
