Medical company ranks among 'Best Employers for Diversity' in US

A medical technology company in the region ranks among the nation’s best employers for diversity.
Kalamazoo-based Stryker is the only West Michigan company in Forbes’ 2018 “America’s Best Employers for Diversity” ranking.
The maker of medical equipment and devices ranks No. 135 out of 250 companies.
The top five organizations in the ranking are Chicago-based Northern Trust, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., Chicago-based Levy, Mountain View, California-based Intuit and Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Harvard University.
Methodology
Forbes worked with research firm Statista to compile the ranking.
Statista surveyed 30,000 U.S. companies with at least 1,000 employees about issues of gender, ethnicity, LGBTQ+ identity, age and disability.
Responses from underrepresented ethnic minorities, women and people 50 and older received greater weight in the diversity ranking.
According to Forbes, “other factors Statista incorporated were the gender split of companies’ management teams and boards and whether a company proactively communicates about diversity.”
