Law firm expands office downtown
A law firm is growing its presence downtown.
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn said last month its Grand Rapids office moved from a 4,350-square-foot space on the second floor at 300 Ottawa Ave. NW to a 10,000-square-foot space on the fourth floor.
The building is managed by Grand Rapids-based CWD Real Estate Investment.
Tracy Larsen, Honigman’s Grand Rapids managing partner, said when the firm opened the office a year ago, it was staffed by him and another person. Now, the firm’s office has grown to 17 attorneys and five staff members, prompting the firm to relocate.
The new space has 27 total offices.
“We started out with what was available, but now we are home,” Larsen said. “It is just going to be a question of how quickly we fill up the remaining offices that are available on this floor, and I am absolutely confident that we will do that.”
Larsen said he anticipates the firm hiring a few more attorneys within the next month as its practices expand.
He added that there's more natural light coming into the offices, and it also has a larger space that they can use to accompany their “sophisticated technology.”
“We have telecommunication systems, videography systems, much more technology support from a depth perspective,” Larsen said. “Now that we have a larger space, we expanded the type of computers that we use. We’ve gotten more software support with our growing intellectual property practice.”
Larsen said the Grand Rapids office is focusing its practices on acquisitions and mergers, private equity, intellectual property, real estate and public company work.
Honigman also operates offices in Kalamazoo, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Bloomfield Hills and Chicago.
