A West Michigan-based bank is planning to open a new branch in the area this fall.

Sparta-based ChoiceOne Bank said today it purchased a 4,556-square-foot building at 590 E. Division St. NE in Rockford on Jan. 30 and plans to renovate it and open a branch in October.

Kelly Potes, president and CEO of ChoiceOne Bank, said the bank made the decision to add a branch despite a continuing shift toward online banking, because it wants to enhance its customer service in Rockford.

“Even though we know people like to do more of their banking electronically today, we also understand our customers want to visit us in person too — when they need to discuss a loan or other financial services,” he said.

“We will now have three banking locations in Rockford to provide the best banking experience when and where it’s most convenient for our customers.”

The bank has another branch in Rockford at 6795 Courtland Drive NE, as well as an ATM at the Citgo AGO station at 10 Mile and U.S. 131.

Branch manager

Skylet Cummings, who is currently assistant vice president and branch manager for the Rockford market, will oversee customer care and business development at this branch as well.

Cummings joined ChoiceOne Bank a year ago with more than 20 years of banking experience in branch management, small business banking and business development.

Amenities and services

The branch will have a drive-up ATM/interactive teller machine, or ITM, service, which means customers can speak to the tellers via video connection.

ChoiceOne will provide commercial loans, consumer loans and residential mortgages from the new location, as well as traditional banking, including checking, savings and treasury services.

Firms on the project

Grand Rapids-based Integrated Architecture is the architect and interior designer on the project.

Doug Taatjes and Hillary Taatjes Woznick of NAI Wisinski of West Michigan facilitated the purchase of the building.
