A medical company in the region has been recognized among a group of employers that best meet the needs of women in the workforce.

The Women’s Choice Award, a program of WomenCertified, included Kalamazoo-based Stryker on its 2018 list of the top 100 “Best Companies for Women,” which was published this winter.

The ranking recognizes companies that “meet the general needs of all working women, regardless of age, race or family status.”

“We recognize that gender discrepancies are very real in the workplace and knowing we can help women to choose an organization that supports her values is core to our mission,” said Delia Passi, CEO and founder, Women’s Choice Award.

“It’s an honor to recognize these outstanding companies who recognize the importance of meeting the needs and preferences of their employees.”

Data for the “Best Companies for Women” ranking was compiled from a variety of publicly available sources, including the “Fortune 300” list, Working Mother 2016 Best Places to Work, Glassdoor, Fairygodboss, 2020 Women on Boards, Paid Leave for the US, company websites, annual reports and news releases.

The research was conducted in partnership with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Companies were evaluated based on female representation, work-life balance benefits, paid time off and vacation days, maternity support, professional development and support opportunities and wellness benefits.

Each category was given a composite score based on the time/benefit provided and weighted accordingly. Companies with the 100 highest scores were included on the top 100 list.

Other award categories

Stryker also was selected for Women’s Choice Award’s 2018 “Best Companies for Multicultural Women” and “Best Companies for Millennials.”

Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company was ranked on the latter list as well.

The full list of honorees can be found online.
