Kayak maker hiring 70 workers
A maker of kayaks in the region plans to hire 70 employees to meet increased demand.
Muskegon-based KL Outdoor said Saturday it plans to fill the positions as it experiences growing demand for recreational and fishing kayaks.
The planned hires will work in production and shipping in KL Outdoor’s manufacturing, warehousing and shipping operations in Muskegon.
“Our retail customers, like Walmart, Tractor Supply, Dunham’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods, are having great years,” said Wes Mooney, KL Outdoor spokesperson and VP of sales. “This means increased demand for our factory here in Muskegon, which is fantastic news for our community.”
Kayak use has increased more than 300 percent in the past 10 years and that number is expected to continue growing, resulting in large retailers adding kayaks to their product lines, according KL Outdoor.
Those interested in learning more about the open positions may email Kiley Sluis at kiley at kloutdoor dot com or call 231-733-1736.
Founded in 1982, KL Outdoor makes kayaks under the Sun Dolphin and Evoke brands.
Sun Dolphin products include thermoformed recreational and fishing kayaks, as well as stand-up paddleboards, canoes, small fishing boats and pedal boats.
Evoke Kayaks represents the company’s premier line of rotomolded kayaks, including fishing kayaks.
