Company replacing downtown restaurant
A restaurant downtown has closed — and a sports bar is opening in its place.
Mazzo Cucina D’Italia, at 122 Monroe Center St. NW, closed and will re-open after renovations as Uccello’s Ristorante in early May, according to a Facebook post yesterday by Mazzo.
“We regret to inform you that Mazzo is now closed and under renovation,” the post says. “We thank you for your support and patronage and look forward to serving you when we re-open as Uccello's Ristorante in May!”
Uccello’s Hospitality Group opened Mazzo last May. The restaurant featured farm-to-table Italian dining, including wood-fired pizza, house-made pastas and signature cocktails.
The new restaurant will feature the Uccello’s menu, but retain some of Mazzo’s specialty items, particularly wood-fired pizza, to maintain the “downtown feel.”
Uccello’s Hospitality Group said all Mazzo staff members were invited to stay and re-train.
The company recently shared a jobs posting on its Facebook page. Positions include dishwashers, line cooks, hosts, servers, bartenders and hourly managers.
Open interviews will be held tomorrow at the old Mazzo location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday from 4-7 p.m.
People can also apply online through Uccello’s Facebook page.
