Real estate firm hires COO
A local commercial real estate firm has named its new senior managing director and chief operating officer.
Ben Bakken will serve in the role for CBRE Grand Rapids and East Lansing-based CBRE Martin.
Bakken said he's "looking forward" to learning from his colleagues and confident that his experience will "contribute toward continued success and growth" in the two markets.
Bakken brings over 10 years of corporate banking experience, handling a high concentration of commercial real estate financing.
His most recent position was as VP of commercial banking at Mercantile Bank in Lansing.
“Ben is held in high-regard in the greater Lansing area,” said Van Martin, chairman and CEO, CBRE Grand Rapids and CBRE Martin. “His dedication to community and his knowledge of business development heightens our capabilities, in both Lansing and Grand Rapids.”
Bakken’s community involvement in the Lansing area includes serving as treasurer for the Holt Public Schools Board of Education and vice chair of the Lansing Financial Health Team.
Bakken also serves as an organizer of the 5 Minutes Tops contest, a program that allows local students to make business pitches to potential local investors, and he is an 11-year participant of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge.
He holds a B.S. from Wayne State University and an M.B.A. from Northwood University.
