Retirement community hires executive director
A local senior living community has a new leader.
Jana Broughton was hired for the role at Samaritas Senior Living's Grand Rapids campus.
Broughton comes to Samaritas as a veteran health care professional with more than 18 years of experience.
Most recently, she was the executive director for Covenant Village of the Great Lakes.
Previously, Broughton operated Caring for the Masses, a consulting firm helping care organizations in Michigan and Virginia implement technology and practices to reduce re-admissions to hospitals.
She has served in several other leadership positions, such as regional director of operations for Extendicare Health Service in Wisconsin and executive director at The Village at Rockville in Maryland.
Broughton holds a bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology and psychology from the University of Michigan-Flint.
She has a master’s degree in management, leadership and human resources from the Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration.
She also holds a certificate in leadership and human resources from Grand Canyon University.
“We’re excited to have Jana’s breadth and depth of knowledge on our senior living campus,” said Karen Monday, VP of senior living, Samaritas. “We welcome Jana and her great leadership and vision to our already phenomenal team in Grand Rapids.”
Broughton said, “Samaritas has a rich history of service and faith leadership. I have a passion for servant leadership, and the Samaritas mission speaks to my servant heart.”
Broughton has been involved with the American Association of Nurses Assessment Coordination and the American College of Health Care Administration and has served as a board member for the Health Care Association of Michigan for two years.
