A local brewery is set to crack open a new barrel-aged ale.

Grand Rapids-based Founders Brewing Co. said yesterday it is releasing Barrel Runner, a tiki-inspired, limited-edition beer in the company’s Barrel-Aged Series.

Barrel Runner is brewed with Mosaic hops, aged in rum barrels and marked with a “sweet and hoppy” flavor. It has an ABV of 11.1 percent.

Barrel Runner will be available at Founders taprooms on June 22 and at retailers from June through August.

The beer will be packaged in 750-ml bottles and four-packs of 12-oz bottles.

There are two other brews scheduled to be released in the Barrel-Aged Series.

Other brews in the series include KBS, Dankwood and Backwoods Bastard, which is now available year-round.
