Manufacturer extending footprint in US
A logistics and supply chain technology company with locations in the region is expanding its U.S. footprint.
TGW Systems — which is part of Wels, Austria-based TGW Logistics Group and has operations in Grand Rapids and Norton Shores — said this month it is opening offices in Seattle and Atlanta as part of a year-long expansion plan.
“Both cities not only give us a footprint closer to current and prospective customers, but also represent two major metropolitan areas with strong engineering and logistics communities,” said Alex Ruch, director of human resources, TGW Systems. “Further, these two regions are home to top-tier universities that are continuously graduating world-class talent familiar with cutting-edge technologies.”
TGW Systems’ core customers are in the apparel, grocery and general merchandise industries.
The new offices will house sales, project quoting and specialized engineering activities, as well as controls specialists, remote service teams and technical personnel.
“Here in the U.S., our order increase over the previous year vastly exceeded our expectations, and we have increased our workforce by more than 35 percent,” said Mario Herndl, CEO, TGW Systems.
“These two additional locations enable our team to be even closer to customers on the West and East coasts.”
Herndl attributes the company’s growth to “innovative handling solutions” that make it “a self-contained solutions provider.”
TGW Systems currently has its sole U.S. manufacturing operation in Norton Shores.
The Business Journal reported in January the company is in the process of purchasing a different, 170,000-square-foot facility in Norton Shores, at 1300 E. Mount Garfield Rd., to double its capacity. That move is expected to happen later this year.
TGW has another West Michigan location in Grand Rapids, at 3001 Orchard Vista Dr. SE, which houses administrative and other support functions.
The company has about 350 West Michigan employees.
It plans to hire 100 more employees across its locations over the next 12 months.
