Finishing company expanding facility
A finishing company is investing $5.3 million to expand its operation in the region.
Almond Products is planning to construct a 55,000-square-foot addition to its existing 120,000-square-foot facility in Spring Lake, at 17150 148th Ave., according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC.
The project is expected to create 72 jobs by the end of 2021.
The company is experiencing “significant growth” and needs to expand its facility.
Spring Lake was chosen for the expansion over the company’s other facility in Mexico.
As part of the expansion, the company has agreed to contribute to an $8.5-million project to increase capacity of the Grand Haven/Spring Lake Sewer Authority, which currently does not have capacity for growth.
Almond Products is the sewer authority’s second-largest customer and was not willing to expand in Spring Lake if the wastewater authority had no capacity for growth.
MEDC has approved an $850,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the project, which will be used to help offset the contribution toward sewer authority upgrades.
Spring Lake Township is offering a 50-percent property tax abatement in support of the project.
“The township of Spring Lake and the MEDC has been extremely supportive and provided resources to aid in expansion in the state of Michigan,” said Joy Ponce, president and COO, Almond Products.
Almond Products is a metal finishing company serving automotive, military and office furniture customers.
It specializes in pre-treatment and stand-alone coatings, as well as specialized assembly and masking capabilities.
The company has facilities in Spring Lake and Guanajuato, Mexico.
