Craft beer industry grows by 20 percent

A local museum will be exploring beer this week.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum will partner with Grand Rapids-based Creston Brewery to host a Beer Explorers class on the science of fermentation at the museum on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The class will feature Creston Brewery Brewmaster Scott Schultz.

Attendees can pair five Creston Brewery beers and snack samples to explore how fermentation changes the flavor. Two of the beers, Fox Deluxe and Quimby, have names tied to Grand Rapids' history.

The museum will also share beer artifacts with participants to give them an insight on where beers get their names.

Beer Explorers is an interactive monthly class where the museum partners with local breweries to learn more about the science and history of beer, as well as the local beers in Beer City.

There will be a cash bar available.

Tickets to the event will be $10 for museum members and $20 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online. Participants must be 21 or older.
