Four West Michigan companies have been recognized as some of the “Best for the World.”

The companies were recognized for their social and environmental impacts by B Lab, a nonprofit that “helps businesses become a force for social good.”

The West Michigan-based B Corp companies recognized include Atomic Object, Bazzani Building Co., Catalyst Partners and Betterway Imports.

The “B Corp Best for the World” list honors more than 200 businesses that rank in the top 10 percent of all certified B Corporations on the B Impact Assessment, an assessment of a company’s impact on its employees, community and the environment.

B Lab rates companies based on standards of social performance, environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

There are more than 2,544 certified B Corps from 50 countries and 130 industries.

“We are proud of our B Corps that are making a positive impact on our local communities, across Michigan and around the world,” said Elissa Hillary, president of Local First, the West Michigan nonprofit that manages the Michigan B Corps program.

“This is a special honor for these B Corps to be recognized as some of the best sustainable businesses in the world. Their leadership, outstanding performance on the B Impact Assessment and everyday impact on their local communities and the environment does not go unnoticed.”
