Ford airport reports best-ever May
Gerald R. Ford International Airport is reporting another record-breaking month.
The airport served 261,281 passengers during May, the most ever and up 11.5 percent from last May.
“We are happy to hear the first four months of increased traffic in 2018 were not just a fluke of winter and spring break traffic, but that our record-breaking passenger counts are continuing into the summer months,” said Jim Gill, president and CEO, Ford airport.
Gill foresees increases in the coming months, with American Airlines adding mainline service to Dallas, Delta Airlines adding more frequency to New York-LaGuardia and United Airlines’s capacity to Chicago and Denver increasing.
Each month of 2018 has resulted in record-breaking passenger numbers.
More than 2.8-million passengers went through the airport last year, the fifth straight year of record growth.
This summer is expected to be the busiest summer in the history of U.S. air travel, according to the trade group Airlines for America.
The group estimates more than 246-million passengers will fly in the U.S. between June 1 and Aug. 31, citing historically low fares and a strong economy.
