A professional growth organization for women in finance has rated a pair of companies with West Michigan locations among the “Best CPA Firms for Women.”

The Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance, or AFWA, named Troy-based Rehmann and Southfield-based Plante Moran as two of 12 firms that are advancing women based on its 2018 Accounting MOVE Project methodology.

The list recognizes firms that provide “consistent, measurable progress in advancing women, proven and continually evolving programs that retain and advance women and clear and compelling integration of the business case for advancing women with business results.”

The 2018 Accounting MOVE Project found women comprise 25 percent of the management committees at participating firms, compared to 19 percent in 2014.

Progress was found to be “incremental overall,” with women remaining at 24 percent of partners and principals at CPA firms.

Methodology

The Accounting MOVE Project is based on the MOVE methodology, developed by AFWA research partner Wilson-Taylor Associates Inc., which investigates the factors proven to be essential to women’s career success: money, opportunity, vital supports and entrepreneurship.

The 2018 Accounting MOVE results are based on surveys and interviews with 45 participating firms that consist of 31,533 employees, conducted from November 2017 to March 2018.

The “Best CPA Firms for Women” list, sponsored by the AFWA, is based on each year’s MOVE results. To earn a spot on the list, an employer must have a proportionate number of women at most or all levels of management and proven success with the MOVE factors.
