Brewery releases summer beers
A Grand Rapids brewery is partnering with a juice company to roll out fruit-infused beers for summer.
Elk Brewing has released Watermelon Cucumber and Blueberry Cucumber Gose, German-style sour beers fused with juice concentrates sourced from Sparta-based Old Orchards Brands.
The sours are available on draft at Elk Brewing’s two brewpubs at 700 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids, and at 400 Dodge NE, Comstock Park. The new brews also will be sold in cans throughout the summer.
“Elk Brewing has been focused on creativity since the beginning,” said brewery owner Eric Karns. “The new Gose flavors we’ve released this summer highlight our ability to bring unique, quality craft beer to West Michigan and beyond, and it underscores our desire to pair with local partners to bring these concepts to life.”
Elk Brewing has partnered with Old Orchard on other fruit-flavored beers in the past, including its PB & J’Ale’Y, a peanut butter beer, which uses grape juice concentrate supplied by Old Orchard.
“The calls from brewmasters buying our juice concentrates in bulk have increased dramatically in the past 12 months,” said Chris Kohler, director of purchasing for Old Orchard Brands. “They had discovered our frozen juice concentrates at retail grocery stores and were buying all of the cans off the shelf for use in their beers and wines.”
Elk Brewing also will be at Kingma’s Market, 444 Ada Drive, Ada, from 4-7 p.m. on June 29 to host a tasting of its new Goses, according to Facebook.
