Title agency CEO wins leadership award
The CEO of a Grand Rapids title agency has received an award for distinguished leadership.
Monte Reinert, CEO of Transnation Title Agency, was granted the October Research 2018 Leadership Award on June 7, during the 14th Annual National Settlement Services Summit at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.
“The October Research Awards are given to those nominated by their colleagues for excellence in leadership, innovation and philanthropy,” said October Research CEO and Publisher Erica Meyer. “Over the seven years we have been presenting these awards, the industry has continued to evolve and grow, and there are so many talented individuals who deserve recognition.”
Reinert has over four decades of experience managing state and local title offices, including serving the past decade as CEO of Transnation. Reinert spun Transnation out of Land America in 2007, when he and his business partners purchased the company’s six Michigan offices.
After Land America became a publicly traded company, the autonomy of its field operations diminished, making it increasingly difficult to remain competitive, Reinert said. The company also only agreed to sell the six offices to Reinert on the condition he accept an exclusive agency contract.
“We took the chance our lifetimes,” Reinert said. “Without the full support of our wives and family from the very beginning I’m not sure we could have moved forward with confidence.”
After the 2008 financial crisis hit, Transnation’s insurance provider filed for bankruptcy, costing the title company nearly $250,000 worth of potential income from pending orders.
Reinert was able to compel Land America to release Transnation from its exclusive agency contract, allowing the company to sign on with another insurance provider. Reinert said the move saved the company some cancelled orders and returned it to profitability.
Transnation has now grown from 44 employees at its shaky start to almost 270 working in 32 offices in Michigan and Indiana.
“We are still 100 percent employee owned, with nearly one-third of our employees having a financial interest in our company,” Reinert said. “I have been blessed to have such a great staff of smart, hardworking, dedicated people whose collective efforts have made me look much bigger and better than I deserve.”
