Holding company invests in disinfection business
A West Michigan holding company is investing in a maker of surface disinfection technology.
Grand Haven-based JSJ Corporation said last week it will provide an undisclosed financial investment to Livonia-based UV Partners, doing business as UV Angel, along with manufacturing, engineering and licensing agreements through its portfolio company GHSP.
UV Angel’s proprietary technology is a small UltraViolet-C device that mounts to frequently touched electronic surfaces, continuously monitors them to detect when the surfaces have been used and automatically disinfects the affected surfaces hundreds of times a day.
Tom Rizzi, COO at JSJ, said his company is “thrilled to partner with UV Angel.”
“JSJ has a long history of partnerships and investments that leverage our experience with advanced engineered solutions in new and exciting ways,” Rizzi said.
“We look forward to working with UV Angel to expand production, explore new markets and make a meaningful impact in the fight against infections, bacteria and diseases that can have an enormous impact on a company’s revenue, reputation, customer health and employee well‐being.”
Under the licensing agreements, GHSP will manufacture and provide engineering services for UV Angel devices at its Grand Haven manufacturing facilities.
Tom Byrne, CEO of UV Angel, said his company is “proud to have developed” a “pioneering technology solution” that a recent clinical study found reduces more than 99 percent of bacteria.
“Now, thanks to our partnership with JSJ Corporation, we will be able to get this technology to even more health care facilities, retailers, restaurants and corporations around the country,” Byrne said.
Founded in 2010, UV Angel makes surface disinfection technology for keyboards, touchscreens and equipment in health care, food service and retail environments.
JSJ was founded in 1919 by Alvin Jacobson Sr., Paul Johnson and B.P. Sherwood as Grand Haven Brass Foundry. It changed its name to JSJ Corporation in 1970.
The company is now a global firm with manufacturing operations, sales offices and distribution centers in 14 states and six countries.
Its portfolio of companies and brands includes GHSP, Hudson Technologies, McLoone Product Identification, Sparks Belting Company and Dake.
